“Bulgaria. Innovations
and Traditions.” in Berlin
On September 12 was held the opening of the exhibition “Bulgaria. Innovations and Traditions”at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin. It is a traveling format of Amateras Foundation, part of Sofia Paper Art Fest 2024 program. So far, the exhibition has been presented successfully under the patronage of the Bulgarian Embassy in two locations in Brussels (Brigit Gallery and Belfius Bank Hall) in 2022; and at the European Court in Luxembourg in 2023.
The mission of the project is to showcase fragments of the ancient spiritual heritage of our lands that have influenced European history and culture. The secrets of the ancient Thracians, the Bogomils, the Christian achievements, the Glagolitic alphabet, the ancient Hunobulgarian calendar, all in the language of paper and bronze, are presented in an allegorical way. The exposition shows contemporary art with far-reaching messages. The sculptures are interactive, sounding objects representing trends in contemporary sculpture. Solar symbolism and reverence for the universe are the main focus of the project, addressing spiritual teachings of our lands. Orphism, the carrier of the secret knowledge of the universe with its sign system, is elegantly incorporated into the panels.
Todor Todorov and Daniela Todorova are prominent Bulgarian artists, creators of numerous exhibitions and projects in Bulgaria and abroad. The exhibition is part of a long-term cultural policy to present Bulgaria’s vast cultural heritage through contemporary art, combining symbolic panels with innovative sounding sculptures.
The event was attended by H.E. Grigor Porozhanov, diplomats and colleagues of the two artists from Germany, Bulgaria, Japan and the USA. On behalf of the BCI Berlin, the two authors and the guests were welcomed by the Cultural Affairs Officer Mihaela Todorova.
The exhibition is on view between September 12 and October 4, 2024.
