Outdoors

Following a competition for art in the urban environment, with a location the outdoor spaces of RCCA Toplocentrala, an expert jury chose to support the realization of Hristina Decheva’s project named “Town Talks”. Located in two places – in the green area in front of the main entrance for visitors and on the outdoor terrace of the RCCA Toplocentrala, the artist’s work will invite us to play and communicate through art for one month. The installation is mainly made of paper, and it is up to the imagination of the visitors to determine the shapes of the objects that will emerge – prehistoric dwellings, stylizations of animals or simply structures for shelter. Everyone is invited to interact and move with care through the open spaces of the “artwork-town”.

Here is what artist Hristina Decheva shares about her project:

“RCCA Toplocentrala is an intersectional space of exchange, interaction and connection of both people, artists and audiences, as well as arts, just like the city. The city is a scene of constant action and interaction, of spatial communication and is a living organism, forever changing, breathing, playing.

In this installation, I have recreated a miniature image of the city, made up of fantasy creatures that remind of a children’s game, which is the most casual, the lightest and most fruitful way of communicating, learning and making a connection with the self and with the other.”

Hristina Decheva holds an MA in Sculpture from the “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” University of Veliko Tarnovo. She makes ceramic, paper and metal sculpture and works as a freelance illustrator. Decheva lives, creates and teaches in the city of Burgas, where she also runs a modeling studio. She participates in collaborative projects with various organizations, in competitions and biennials.

The period in which you can visit the installation is September 28 – October 28, 2024.

The event is part of “Art in Urban Environment” Section of Sofia Paper Art Fest 2024 and is realized in partnership with RCCA Toplocentrala.

With the financial support of: programs “Visual Arts” of the Ministry of Culture, “Creation ’23” by the National Culture Fund, and the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality 2024.
