Urban Archeology V
A solo exhibition
of Leonardo Gotleyb

Between May 25 and June 18, in the Triangular Tower of Serdica, Sofia Paper Art Fest presents the solo exhibition of Leonardo Gotleyb – a renowned Argentinian artist in the field of graphic art. This exhibition includes artworks by Gotleybb created with the technique of xylography, or woodcut.

Here’s what Leonardo Gottlieb says about his Urban Archeology V series:

“They were created with this purpose in mind – to be a plea for preservation of the environment. We need to know how to find the balance between science, culture and technology. Not everything is profit. We need to have a gaze that goes through the heart, to know how to connect with other human beings, and for that it is very important to know how to respect our Mother Nature. Climate change is knocking at the door and we need to know how to protect the planet. I will never tire of talking about this.”

Leonardo Gotleyb was born in the province of Chaco, where the largest Bulgarian diaspora in Argentina is located, and his relationship with the Bulgarian community marks the beginning of his early years. Gotleyb has been shown in solo exhibitions in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Spain, Germany, Italy, Poland, and other countries. He has participated in more than 100 biennials in the Americas, Europe and Asia, in which he has been awarded several times for his art.

His presentation in Bulgaria is accompanied by a screening of the documentary “Heart Like a Bird” (2016), which tells the story of the Argentine poet with Bulgarian roots Mario Nestoroff (1936–1980). The thirty-minute film narration is created by the Civic Association “Bulgarians in Argentina”, Aksinia Ivanova, a member of the Union of Argentine Writers (SADE), and Ivan Tsankov.

The exhibition is part of the long-term project Bulgaria – Argentina and this year diferrent events are organised within the frame of Sofia Paper Art Fest.

The event will be introduced by H.E. Alfredo N. Atanasoff, Ambassador of Argentina in Bulgaria.

Co-organisers of the exhibition are the Embassy of Argentina in Bulgaria and Regional History Museum – Sofia.

The exhibition space “Triangluar Tower of Serdica” is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm.

The exhibition is realised with the financial support of “One-Year Grant” Program, “Visual Arts” Program of the Ministry of Culture and is part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality for 2023.
