Japan Bowl VII

On May 12 at Hotel “Hemus” the seventh consecutive edition of Japan Bowl in Bulgaria was held – an international youth competition for Japanese language and culture. The event is part of the Paper Art Academy department of Sofia Paper Art Fest 2025 and is carried out under the patronage of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Bulgaria and in partnership with JSEEBA (Japan–South–Eastern European Business Association).


Japan Bowl VII gathered pupils and students studying Japanese language and culture to compete in knowledge in the fields of language, literature, history, traditional art and contemporary society of Japan. 26 teams participated from 18th Secondary School “William Gladstone”, 138th Secondary School “Prof. Vasil Zlatarski”, Language School “Satori”, Varna and Japanese Cultural Center “Kokoro”.


Japan Bowl aims to strengthen and expand intercultural dialogue between Bulgaria and Japan, to encourage the study of Japanese language and traditions, as well as to create lasting collaborations between educational institutions and business. The program also included a musical performance by Reiko Nomura and a presentation of origami by Michiko Takahashi and Yoanna Penkova.


Sofia Paper Art Fest 2025 is realized with the financial support of Programme “Visual Arts” of the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Calendar of Sofia Municipality for 2025.
