“New Horizons III –
Near & Far”,
Residency Project
in Municipality of Levski
This is the third edition of the international one-week residency “New Horizons” organized by Amateras Foundation and Municipality of Levski. After two successful editions with participants from Argentina, Japan and Korea, this year the project continues with a broader international scope, with a focus on contemporary Chinese art.

Municipality of Levski has a long tradition of relations with Far Eastern countries, and the interest in authors from China is a natural continuation in presenting art from this part of the world. The group includes prominent Chinese artists, known not only in their own country. Their presentation began first in Sofia with the exhibition “Paper Cosmos – Contemporary Chinese Paper Art” at the Triangle Tower of Serdica, part of Sofia Paper Art Fest. This is the second event of the newly launched long-term exchange project NEAR AND FAR between Bulgaria and China, initiated by the Embassy of China in Bulgaria and Amateras Foundation.
During the residency period, the visiting artists will have the opportunity to see folklore events, natural landmarks, historical heritage and to meet local artists. The program includes: a workshop for children and adults led by the group of Chinese artists with a focus on ancient Chinese techniques; a discussion between local artists and art enthusiasts with Chinese and Bulgarian artists, who will briefly present their work and the specifics of the techniques they use.

The exchange project NEAR AND FAR is an example of how contemporary art can connect cultures, encourage new perceptions and inspire transnational cooperation. It brings together traditions, innovations, dialogue and friendship.
